Tutsis massacred in Burundi

156 Tutsis mainly women and children were killed whilst sleeping and scores injured,  in a camp for Congolese Tutsis.   Men armed with machetes and guns attacked the camp burning houses and killing.  A Hutu rebel group, The "Hutu Forces for National Liberation" claimed responsibility.

The Tutsis in the camp, some 1,700, were there because they were trying to escape the violence in Democratic Republic of Congo.
