Lucky Dube: R I P

R. I. P. LUCKY DUBE – South African reggae super star was murdered in a hijacking in Joburg last night at around 8pm

An injured Dube tried to flee but drove his grey Chrysler sedan into a tree and died on the scene. No further details were available as his son, who reportedly witnessed the incident, was still in shock.

Thanks for all the happiness you gave us all with your beautiful music – you are gone but your spirit and music will live on. Bless.

  1. Wow! I just read about this on another blog, but it only mentioned that he passed away and not how he died. This is such a tragedy.

My Husband told me about this and I am still in shock! What an absolute tragedy for his family and particularly his children who he was apparently picking up. God have mercy. May his soul rest in peace. The world has lost an incredibly talented individual.

I still can’t believe he was shot, and only just for a car.

Thank You, Lucky Philip Dube, for all the great music and much love.

  4. I am so sorry to hear this news! I just gave my new partner a Lucky Dube cd this year because he had not heard of him before.

    This breaks my heart.

Hamba Kahle. You were one in a million.Your music will always speak, even though, you are gone. I know God will bring justice tou your death. Lucky Dube is the only singer I listen to besides gospel music. You will be missed and may God comfort your family.

I HAVE LOST MY ROLE MODEL.LUCKY DUBE WAS A MORAL PHILOSOPHER,A MAN WHO KNEW THE MEANING OF LIFE.HE WAS NEVER EASLY BRAINWASHED TO PURSUE DELUSIONAL ASPIRARATION,HE WORKED OUT THINGS ON THE BASES OF THE UNIVERSALLY SHARED STANDARDS OF PUBLIC DECENCY.LIKE HE SAID IN ONE OF HIS SONG(BULLY),”HE KILLS FOR FUN,HE IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WE WERE WARNED ABOUT SO MANY YEARS AGO, HIS DAY IS GONNA COME EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY”…….HE FAUTHG FOR MY RITHTS AS A ‘BLACK PERSON’ AND I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM UNTIL I DIE TOO.MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE,AND MAY GOD TOUCH EACH AND EVERYONE OF HIS FAMILY WITH HIS BLESSING AND HEALING HAND.ALL THE PAINS I WILL TAKE TO GOD LIKE HE ALWAYS TAUGHT ME THROUGH HIS MUSIC.GOD KNOWS WHY IT HAPPANED.

Lukcy Dube has been such a significant person in my family. His music has helped with my family’s journey through a very difficult time. It spoke and brought my family together. His death is a great lost for my family and the world.

Lucky Dube is a reggae artist not like any other. He was in a class of his own. I give Bob and others credit but not like Lucky Dube. He had more of a struggle with his music and with his life.. coming up in poverty and apartheid stricken South Africa. It’s such a blessing to see the level he reached as a black south african and a reggae artist on a whole. No-one should and can’t afford to forget his music. Long live ther King of Reggae.
