Kehinde Wiley

This post has been updated on 10/2/2015

I just discovered Kehinde Wiley and am blown away by the theater of his art. His portraits of young Black men in Hip Hop / sports gear set against the back drop of “naming” in which he uses language to play with gender, sexuality and religion – many of the paintings are named after saints or a biblical event.

“Passing/Posing (Female Prophet Deborah),” 2003 (oil on canvas mounted on panel). by Kehinde Wiley
